AFCC is a joint-venture between Daimler, Ford Motor Company and Ballard Power Systems (financial investor only).
Within the Alliance, each partner concentrates on its core competencies. AFCC (Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation) is responsible for the research and product development of automotive fuel cell stacks. Daimler and Ford Motor Company define the technical requirements for fuel cell systems, provide program direction, support AFCC R&D efforts, develop manufacturing capability, and carry out the integration of the complete fuel cell power train into their vehicles. AFCC’s sister company NuCellSys, wholly-owned by Daimler, is developing the peripheral components surrounding the fuel cell stack.
